Personally i say the Inheritence trilogy because Harry Potter is so lame. (and not as good as everyone says)

In terms of books, Eragon is more fun. The Harry Potter series is like the same thing over and over. "Fight Voldemort, Go To school for one year, Next Book, Fight Voldemort, Go To school for one year, Next Book, Fight Voldemort, Go To school for one year."
At least Both Eragon and Eldest have differences but the same continuation. They are more fascinating.

I would definately have to say that the Harry Potter series is better! The Inheritence Trilogy is good, but the author is fairly new, and seems to try too hard in his writing. He also makes conversations a little boring at times (especially in Eldest). Eragon is, of course, an awesome book, but I believe Harry Potter is better. It is "one of a kind," and there are no other books like it! That is just my opinion...

I like the inheritance books better. Nothing against the authors but Eragon offers more to me than Harry Potter.

Harry Potter by far.
e.g. (a quote from Eragon) "'Sorry,' apologized Brom."
I am not nitpicking like the peeps @ anti shurtugal, but I think at least Paolini's editor could have done a better job.
Also I am a Harry Potter fan to the core since I was in elementary school, so I don't exactly have an unbiased opinion.

I would say the Inheritance Trilogy, but if you have only seen the movies, I would definitely go with Harry Potter!

Deffinatly the inheritence trilogy!!!! Potter is badly written and stolen from so many other story's its stupid (although the trilogy is quite similar to the wizard of earth sea). However, Darren Shan knocks both of them waaaayyy into touch.
So there.
