Not to take anything away from The Searchers, an excellent movie, but High Noon is the best western of all-time and could be the best film of all-time of any genre.

It's not one of my favourite genres, but the best ones I think are- Unforgiven
Once Upon a Time in the West
The Good, The Bad and the Ugly
The Wild Bunch
The Outlaw Josey Wales
Dances with Wolves.

It has great direction and appears on a lot of people's lists. I like it, but my personal preference is for 'Once upon a Time in The West'. Not everyone's cup of tea because Sergio Leone wanted something very operatic/mythical, but this is the very reason I love it and will happily watch it two or three times a year. The opening sequence and the vertical tracking shot as Claudia Cardinale walks into the town along with the music get to me every time.

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
The Sons of Katie Elder
The Magnificent Seven

I don't like many western films but I do like Giant and she wore a yellow ribbon. I love the themetune to that, I always remember my dad singing it. The Good the Bad and The Ugly is good too. I don't know if I'm strange but I think Clint Eastwood was hot lol. I'm not bringing much to the topic here though...

Unforgiven, is in my opinion, the best ever western, it has everything, the grim reality of the era, the myths, masterful performances from Eastwood and Hackman, and to top it off, the bad guys getting what's coming to them.

I'm kind of partial to Shane with Alan Ladd, Jean Arthur and Jack Palance.
