With all the new rules that keep coming in it sure looks like it! Is the quarterback not a player? Can you even takle a quarterback in the league anymore? Those are sarcastic questions! But still! Hell I remember when I was just a child we played a game called Smear the *****. Alot of us had bruises on our bodies when we went home. And its not like "all" Defensive Ends or Linebackers want to hurt a quarterback. I'm sure it does cross someones mind at one time or another. But hey! Your in the NFL! Shouldn't you be able to take a hit?

You're right - I'm all for protecting the QB, but it's gotten so out of hand that it's now just plain ridiculous.

Earlier this year, Justin Smith of the Bengals was called for driving the Bucs' Bruce Gradkowski into the ground, when all he was doing was taking him down for a sack. Is it Smith's fault that the QB tucked his head? And a few weeks ago, the Packers got called for one of those "blows to the head" on the QB in a situation where the defensive player was flying through the air after a block and the QB moved into him. That's why the Giants' D-lineman let Vince Young escape for a huge run a couple of weeks ago, because he thought the ball was gone and didn't want to get called for a personal foul.

The pass interference rules are bad enough - you can't even dare to get close to a receiver without being called - and now the same thing is happening with quarterbacks. It's cheapening the league to force players on defense to play with rules that hinder them so badly. I'm not saying we bring back the '70s, but the rules now are way too strictly enforced.

Also, I can't believe anyone actually answered the question of whether the league would go to two-hand touch. Apparently, the asker's use of sarcasm is a little much for some of our Yahoo users!

The NFL definitely needs to look at 2 areas in the near future, 3 if you include replay.

1) QB tackles/hits:
I have seen way too much inconsistency with calls. Last week in Miami, for example, a Patriot was flagged for 15 yards after Miami QB, Harrington stepped backwards after throwing a pass and tripped over a fallen Patriot who was just laying on the ground. I have seen pushes get flagged even when QB's don't fall and I have seen QB's get pummelled after releasing the ball with no call made. Clarify the rule and be consistent!

2) Pass interference:
Will someone PLEASE tell me what the heck is pass interference and what isn't. This call/no call has been the most frustrating part of being a football fan. It changes from game to game, ref to ref and even changes as games go on. Again, clarify the rule and be consistent. You can either hand check when the ball is in the air or you can't...but call it consistently!

3) replays:
Take a lesson from hcokey and don't let the guy on the field make the call by himself. Egos seem to come into play. There is one official in the league, who, as of 2 weeks ago, had not overturned ONE replay all season. And it came up on a Sunday/Monday night game that he hadn't and he followed suit in that game by stciking by his fellow officials and not overturning a particular call, that the announcers and fans (I did not have a team playing in that game, so I was neutral) all saw as a common sense cause for overturning the call. Again, too much inconsistency. Just last week in the Seattle v SF game, a SF player caught a long pass in the redzone on a 3rd and long that would have otherwise led to a late punt before the half. Replays clearly showed the ball shifted as the player hit the ground out of bounds...no catch, tright? Wrong! All 3 announcers and a majority of fans were stunned (for better or worse) that the play stood. CONSISTENCY! CLARIFY AND BE CONSISTENT and the NFL will have a better product!

It really sucks for the defense
as a defensive player I loved getting a shot at QBs
not only would it make them scary but if he is real good (like a peyton manning) we could take him out the game
But I understand that
QBs are the center of a team
Kickers shouldn't be protected at all
What really ticks me off (of course I'm biased) is the Wrs
DBs basically can't do anything but watch them catch it
even after they let the catch it, they get fined for Knocking the piss out of them

you should never have to stop a player from hitting hard

BS! Being fined when referees didn't even warrant a penalty is ridiculous. It's obvious, the teams Steelers played this season are the ones crying to the NFL to fine Ward because he is being to physical.

it will never go to 2 hand touch. it would make football one of the worst sports on tv. it would ruin many peoples careers, especially power running backs like rudi johnson. there would not be any fullbacks in the league, linemen would have 10 sacks a game, and qbs would have shorter careers because their arms would be dead. because of this, nfl will stay tackle, but there will still be rules.

NO NO AND NO

This is the NFL here. Yes they have new rules, but still no. That will take away the spirit of the game and people will stop watching it and I don't think the league will want that.

Its because now a days a franchise QB is worth 100 mil and you don't want him hurt. But they won't go too far fans love seeing big sacks
