I just contacted an art school in AZ and I am nervously waiting for a phone call...from that school. I am only a Junior in High School and am wondering if what I did was too early or something?

It's OK that you called them. The junior year (usually in the spring) is when you'd really start looking at schools in earnest, so it's natural to want to get some basic info.

Visit college fairs, go to the school's websites, request literature...all of these things help you understand what the school has to offer...AND shows the school you're interested in them, which can actually help you when and if you apply. (ie they keep track of how many contacts you've had with the school...it helps them know that if they offer you a spot, how likely you are to say "yes." It helps them with their "yield" which is a statistic they use to brag about... e.g. "we offered 100 students a spot, and 70% of them said yes!" Look how desirable we are, etc.

If it is too early, the school won't even bother to phone you. Depends upon what type of "art school" it is - a real college or one of the take-your-money schools. Most juniors are beginning college visits; it is not too early. Most athletes are already being asked to verbally commit to top DI level programs by now so the colleges like people thinking ahead.

Their first priority will be for the upcoming senior class. Don't worry - virtually every school that has been contacted will at least send a packet of information.

Junior is a little early to contact colleges but it's never to early to think about what you'll need to know to get accepted. Keep your grades up, involve yourself in extra-curriculars, and do some volunteer work when you can. This will all help you get accepted.

It's ok that you called them. You are just looking at some colleges that you might be interested in when it is time for you to go. When they call, just explain to them that you were curious about their school.
