They are birds (fowl) and they have both genders. It takes a male (the tom) and a female (the hen) to make baby turkeys (by the hen laying eggs).

There are male turkeys and there are female turkeys. I never heard of one turkey being both male & female. The female turkey's lays eggs rather than giving live birth to a turkey. Its the same for chickens. The male is called a "rooster" and the female is called a "hen".

Turkeys are both male and female, the male is called a c--k (answers wont allow me to use the full spelling)and the female is a hen .When buying one for thanksgiving or Xmas be sure to ask for a hen as they contain far more meat and are much easier to carve they are a bit more expensive but are well worth it.

Hehe...your funny man. There are only male and female. They can't be hermaphrodites, now can they? When they ''MATE" the masculine cells fuse with the feminine cells and it becomes a socalled "egg cell",that in a period of time becomes the new turkey and then the female makes eggs that contain the new individule.Hope this helps you.

There would need to be both male and female in order for them to produce eggs that would hatch into more turkeys

what a question, do they come in both? all those I've looked at come in a butchers van and if you are in the mood to take a tip from me. Don't have one for Christmas, Conversation is nil, Table manners are terrible, and this wanting to have their breastbones ritually smashed is anti good manners on our part.

Sorry it took me so long to answer - I had to thaw it out to check. The turkey, whether frozen or thawed seems to be neither. But I like mine honey roasted.
