I.E. Scarface was a masterpiece, Al Pacino was worthy of an Oscar for his role.. Whereas Godfather, relatively, was moderately entertaining and instructive. Scarface is full of memorable and insightful quotes, i.e., "You need people like me so you can point your dirty little finger and say 'look, there's the bad guy.' "... Love it! This is what society is all about - "good" people (wealthy, good looking, et al) NEED, strongly, all the "other" people to feel good about themselves... That quote is almost as good as Nicholson's "You can't handle the Truth" in a Few Good Men...

Agreed!
"Lesson number one: Don't underestimate the other guy's greed!"
That's a lesson we all need to learn, if we haven't already.
And the repeated imagery of "The world is yours" is absolutely brilliant, and beautifully tragic. It shows a more modern and truthful side of crime syndicates and rise to power. Let's be honest, mobs like in the Godfather no longer exist. They're all scum these days.

I couldn't agree with you or Miss Mina more as to what an excellent movie Scarface was. I also agree that you can't compare the two. Not because one sucked and the other didn't but because they are two TOTALLY different stories in every way imaginable. Scarface is my favorite movie of all time but I also love The Godfather.

I can't imagine why anyone would even compare the two. Scarface was just a violent drug dealer movie about a Cuban cokehead that didn't achieve anything but suicide. Godfather is about a real gangsta, who came from nothing to leaving an empire for the next generation that included lawyers, judges and politicians. It was the REAL story about how intelligent immigrants came to this country and worked with the nothing that was given to them and built something. It is a true reflection about the evils of the mob and the contrast of family loyalty. "It was never personal, just business".

Oh, I'd say there were plenty of good Godfather quotes.

"I'm gonna make you an offer you can't refuse" comes to mind.

Both movies are excellent. Godfather allows a look at a mob family.

Scarface was a drug dealer, who had no legacy. That's a big difference.

I think the comparison that you are refering to is of 2 Al Pacino movies. Scarface was mad funny.. I loved his character. That scene at the club when he's dancing with Michelle Pfieffer was frikken hilarious.

Scarface was wretched excess with Al doing his jumping, yelling, screamiong acting approach.

Brando was more scary, as he was more subtle
