A hero is that someone that always makes you feel better and is always there to help when ever you need him.

Well... here is my version.

A hero is a person who embodies what is good and great about anything. Heroes can be found in every walk of life, in every country of the world, and in every circumstance.

A hero always puts others ahead of self in the act of heroism. It usually involves personal sacrifice. The issue is, the hero at that moment finds more good in doing that act of heroism than in doing nothing. The hero always takes the high moral ground.

Most heroes are unsung... meaning that nobody knows about their act of heroism. They generally do not call attention to themselves and the reason for their heroism is never personal gain or attention.

I witnessed a hero just the other day. I have a friend who was driving his car down the street and needed to make a right turn. It was fairly dark and there were no overhead lights, so as the turn was made he did not see the homeless person standing on the side of the road to cross the street.

The car hit a mud puddle and the water drenched this homeless person. My friend stopped quickly and walked back to hear the homeless person yelling at him for getting him wet when he had no place to dry out and was going to be cold that night. The My friend apologized and asked the homeless person to step into the car, and drove him home to wash his clothes and give him a warm bath and a bed for the night. He and his family made a nice meal for him and sat around the table talking for over an hour to hear this man's story. In the morning he drove him to a local mission and dropped him off.

My friend was a hero because he took personal responsibility for the situation and was willing to put this homeless person's needs above his own. Most people would have kept driving and some would have laughed at the event. My friend wept. He is a hero.

I agree with the Answer Man, a hero is someone who is not out for personal gain but someone who follows a code of heroism. They tend to not attract attention. That's why it's such a surprise to people in trouble when someone who they never expect risks his/her life to help that person. They are self-sacrificing towards others and loyal.
But being a hero is also lonely because to be a hero one must follow rules like to not give into temptation. But their deeds seem to be forgotten soon afterwords.
I saved a few people some time ago, and out of all the people I saved only 2 or 3 still remember and feel in dept to me.
Heroes are the people you do not see, but if you have a sharp eye you can notice them. For example when someone offers you some of theirs and asks for nothing in return, then he/she is a possible her.
I admire heroes, especially knights, and I sort of live by their code and I try to be a hero like they were.

A hero is someone who acts. Some do consider the harm they might receive in return and some are scared silly, but they all act to help another.

Everyday heroes are another matter. They act to benefit others through their own generosity of heart. They are still heroes, but of a different caliber.

a hero is someone that would give their life to save someone that they might not even know. almost every soldier that has ever been in the military for any country is a hero to someone. they put their lives on the line every day, just so we could have some luxuries in our lives.
