O.k. My baby is 2 months old, I breastfeed and formula feed. Sometimes her poop is mustard colored and sometimes it is forest green. I know it sounds gross, but is that normal? My mother in law watches her while I work and she called me kind of frantic because her poop was green. I told her that is normal, it is because the breastmilk mixed w/the formula makes it that color. But like I said before, we feed this to her all the time and I am wondering why it is green sometimes. Is that some mineral in the formula she is getting too much of or is it something in the breast milk? Just wondering. I know it's gross, but i'm curious.

I was breastfeeding exclusively, but due to stress and going back to work, my milk volume has become increasingly low so, that is why I do both. Some days, I do not produce enough milk to feed my baby just that, so I have to supplement with formula. I do not want to give her JUST formula. I like the idea of my baby still getting my breastmilk as a nutrient than NONE at all. This is for the person that said they advise me to do one or the other. Besides, my pediatrician said it is perfectly fine to do that. I would never just do something like that without consulting her pediatrician first. But thanks for the concern! Keep up the good advice! :)

My pediatrician told me that the longer the BM (bowel movement) a.k.a poo stays in the intestine the darker it will become. Yes yellow mustard color with a seedy texture is normal and what you see when you are breastfeeding, and dark green is due to pro-longed bowel movements and or reaction to formula. No need to worry unless she has diarhea or becomes constipated, or has blood in her stools.

My first cried as rapidly as she moist or dirtied her diaper. She though hates being moist. She's 4 and potty knowledgeable yet though has the occasional in one day twist of destiny each and each as rapidly as in a huge at an similar time as. If she has an twist of destiny, she wakes up and the first element she does is come to me and say "Mommy i opt for brand spanking new pants." My 2d is 10 mo and would favor to care a lot less about having a humid or dirty diaper. If she poos, i will fragrance it and that i modify her yet I cant tell if she pees except I study.

I have 9 kids, and none of them ever had green mess from breastfeeding. Formula fed babies have a more solid and darker colored fecis. It is normal for it to be green, llight or dark.
Also, formula makes for a stinkier diaper change; and as a general rule, boys urine smells stronger than girls urine.

It could be the iron in the formula turning it green.

Or it could be something you ate.

It's normal for their stools to change color based on what they are eating. (And based on what mom is eating while breastfeeding.) It's not a concern as long as she's not acting like she's in pain or something.

The discoloration has more to do with what YOU have eaten. Obviously anything you eat goes into your breastmilk. No reason to be frantic.
