I've lived in Limerick for many, many years and I have never, ever encountered a problem while out and about. It has received unfair press in the last while and it has made many people (including its own citizens) more wary and therefore more inclined to jump at every individual incident, no matter how small. Limerick has some really nice spots to go for a drink, a bite or a night out and I wouldn't be worried at all by having to move here. The shopping is good and the people are lovely (that's just me, I'm lovely, only me). There are lots of little places of interest you can discover (the market on Saturday morning is worth the early rise) for yourself and in general, there's a very relaxed atmosphere in the city.

City or county? Its alright, you wouldnt want to listen to the cr@p in the media about the place, its a lot safer than Dublin and just as safe as other Irish cities. And as for Angela's Ashes, its set in the 30s and 40s, when naturally the place was a lot different to what its like now. And in any case, a lot of people who would have lived there at the time claim that a lot of McCourt's work in Angela's Ashes is exaggerated. Limerick is good for shopping and has a good nightlife. The county is a nice spot too, and theres some very nice people in both. Not to blow my own trumpet or anything.

S. after all.

A gentleman asked about Limerick,
wondering if he could live in it,
So he asked on Yahoo,
but no-one said boo,
so he now spends his life in Hampton Wick

I know a number of people who tell me over a few glasses of the black stuff that's it's the most wonderful place on earth. Strange they all live in South London.

Life's pretty laid back and cool here
With folk full of smiles and good cheer;
THough it rains quite a bit
And the food's fairly poor
You can drink some fabulous beer.

actually nothing wrong with the food, just a bit of poetic licence...
