Placing it in a fire will burn most every speck off of it. Even a light scrub will get the ashes off.

Of course, if the fire is too hot, the wire might melt. Getting a wire that hot on a conventional oven or fireplace would be unlikely.

They have a product out now called The Bullet. It is supposed to do a fantastic job.

try a product called lime away. this product will clean anything. from grease to mold and is very good on pots and pans too.

get some heavy duty oven cleaner ....spray it thoroughly and leave on for about 10 minutes...then use a scouring pad and it should easily come clean
