And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

And the angel said unto them,

Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

There is no one true meaning for christmas.

Each person has their own view of christmas and what it is about. What you see in the holiday and expect from it is probably different from what others see.

Some see it as a holy day that needs to be observed. They do not see it as a time of gifts.

Some see it as a gift holiday. Kind of materialistic but some people see the holiday that way.

Some see it as a time to be closer to friends and family. Trade some gifts, have a couple of parties, and have a good time.

Some see it as an excuse to party.

Some see it as a time when humankind can try to be nicer to each other.

Some see it as a combination of some or all of the above.

However, there is no one definition that works for every single person. Therefore, there is no true meaning of christmas.

Christmas a time for God? Wow. Y'be responsive to, countless atheists have fun Christmas (including me!) i individually do have faith that the which skill of Christmas has been lost, yet i think of that Christmas incredibly could desire to be a time for being with kin, being charitable, and, maximum of all, being chuffed! The consumerism that surrounds Christmas has truthfully faded the which skill, yet area of that which skill continues to be there. in spite of everything, human beings do provide to charities and families come collectively for this one time of the 300 and sixty 5 days. whether, I only don't get why human beings see Christmas as all bearing directly to the promises - it does not look suited to me.

True, Christmas is a time of giving and receiving gifts, but that is not the true meaning of Christmas. It is not all of the commercial money making things that the world does, nor is it the lights and tinsel, christmas trees, etc. that we see everywhere.

The true meaning of Christmas can be found in the word "christmas" itself. You see "CHRIST" is Christmas. All of the other things are the trappings of the world and the traditions of men. They are "add ons" if you will, but they are not the true meaning of Christmas. That, my friend is Jesus Christ.

Christmas is the story of a gift. A gift like no other, given by God, to a world lost in the dark night of sin - it is the gift of his Son, Jesus Christ. The light of the world.

The true meaning of Christmas is LOVE. For you see John 3:16 states "For God so loved the world, that he GAVE his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life." ( Bible, KJV )

The true meaning of Christmas is PEACE. The Bibe also states in Ephesians 2:12-14a "12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
14 ¶ For he is our peace...."

One last thing, the true meaning of Christmas is a message of HOPE, hope for all the world. Ephesians 2:12 quoted above states that the world is full of people who have "no hope". Jesus Christ came to give us hope. Christmas is the birth of hope.

Because Jesus Christ came, lived on this earth, died on the cross, and rose again, the world has HOPE.

I don't know if you agree with me or not. I know a lot of people won't and that is alright, but I ask you this. Do you have hope? Do you have peace? Do you know the Love that God in heaven has for you? Have you received the gift God gave to the world at Christmas time so long ago?

John 3: 17-19 says, "17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil."

Jesus Christ came to bring us peace, hope and love from God in heaven. He came to be the SAVIOUR of the world. He offers all who will believe on him the gift of eternal life and peace with God.
That is my take on the TRUE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS as I see it.

True Meaning of Christmas

Just a week before Christmas I had a visitor. This is how it happened. I just finished the household chores for the night and was preparing to go to bed, when I heard a noise in the front of the house. I opened the door to the front room and to my surprise, Santa himself stepped out next to the fireplace.

"What are you doing?" I started to ask. The words choked up in my throat and I saw he had tears in his eyes. His usual jolly manner was gone. Gone was the eager, boisterous soul we all know. He then answered me with a simple statement . . .

"TEACH THE CHILDREN!" I was puzzled. What did he mean? He anticipated my question and with one quick movement brought forth a miniature toy bag from behind the tree. As I stood bewildered, Santa said, "Teach the children!

Teach them the old meaning of Christmas. The meaning that now-a-days Christmas has forgotten. "Santa then reached in his bag and pulled out a FIR TREE and placed it before the mantle. "Teach the children that the pure green color of the stately fir tree remains green all year round, depicting the everlasting hope of mankind, all the needles point heavenward, making it a symbol of man's thoughts turning toward heaven."

He again reached into his bag and pulled out a brilliant STAR. "Teach the children that the star was the heavenly sign of promises long ago. God promised a Savior for the world, and the star was the sign of fulfillment of His promise."

He then reached into his bag and pulled out a CANDLE. "Teach the children that the candle symbolizes that Christ is the light of the world, and when we see this great light we are reminded of He who displaces the darkness."

Once again he reached into his bag and removed a WREATH and placed it on the tree. "Teach the children that the wreath symbolizes the real nature of love. Real love never ceases. Love is one continuous round of affection."

He then pulled from his bag an ORNAMENT of himself. "Teach the children that I, Santa Claus, symbolize the generosity and good will we feel during the month of December."

He then brought out a HOLLY LEAF. "Teach the children that the holly plant represents immortality. It represents the crown of thorns worn by our Savior. The red holly berries represent the blood shed by Him.

Next he pulled from his bag a GIFT and said, "Teach the children that God so loved the world that he gave his begotten son." Thanks be to God for his unspeakable gift.

Santa then reached in his bag and pulled out a CANDY CANE and hung it on the tree. "Teach the children that the candy cane represents the shepherds' crook. The crook on the staff helps to bring back strayed sheep to the flock. The candy cane is the symbol that we are our brother's keeper."

He reached in again and pulled out an ANGEL. "Teach the children that it was the angels that heralded in the glorious news of the Savior's birth. The angels sang Glory to God in the highest, on earth peace and good will toward men."

Suddenly I heard a soft twinkling sound, and from his bag he pulled out a BELL,. "Teach the children that as the lost sheep are found by the sound of the bell, it should ring mankind to the fold. The bell symbolizes guidance and return.

Santa looked back and was pleased. He looked back at me and I saw that the twinkle was back in his eyes. He said, "Remember, teach the children the true meaning of Christmas and do not put me in the center, for I am but a humble servant of the One that is, and I bow down to worship him, our LORD, our GOD."
