I'm with you. Most horror movies make me laugh and the cheesier the better. I love the horrible acting and the god awful plots and just the gore on top of gore. My absolute favorite horror movie is the orginal Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It takes on a whole new meaning being based on actual events. Although it is quite exaggerated from the story of Ed Gein but whatever. I also LOVE Friday the 13th Part 3 and Nightmare on Elm Street - Dream Warriors and A House of 1,000 Corpses and The Devils Rejects. These didn't terrify me but I really enjoyed all of them. The only movie that ever terrified me was the original Firday the 13th but I think it's because I was only 8 when I saw it. And IT, that scares the crap out me but because I am terrified of clowns, not because it's overly scary.

I've been in your shoes. Most "horror" movies are just gore fests, and the more gory the worse the writing/acting/plot/effects. They don't cut it for scary (sorry about the pun).
A movie called "Sounthern Comfort" about a National Guard training mission in the Bayou definately scared me at the time. Also, the first time I saw the first Nightmare on Elm street, it was more the situation that I was watching it, than the movie itself. Of course, Fatal Attraction can scare the hooie out of you in the right circumstances.
Jeeper Creepers was creepy, but boarderlined on the gorefest. The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre was scary, especially when learning that it was based on a true story. The remakes weren't as good.

For me, it's got to be the ring. But the thing about horror flicks is knowing what scares you the most. I laugh with gory and bloody movies, but ghosts make me cringe. What scares the hell out of you? I'm sure there's a movie about that....

It depends on what you consider scary. For years the only movie that truly scared me was The Exorcist, but then I saw Pet Semetary - by then, I had kids and the premise of the movie really disturbed me. I knew that if anything were to happen to one of my kids, and I had a chance to bring them back, I'd do it.

The scariest movie I have ever seen is called SESSION 9. It isn't the best made movie, but it has the craziest vibe. I couldn't sleep after watching it!
