I just set up my wireless using my modem which can also act as a wireless router because it has a wireless card at the back of it. Whenever I tried to connect to the wireless connection my connection seems not to have a gateway. How do I solve this?? I tried to look at the modem configuration but there is no sign to set up the gateway

Try simply power-cycling the modem. If that doesn't work then open up the Network Connections folder and check to make sure that the Local Area Connection is disabled. Also, right click on the Wireless Network Connection and select View Available Wireless Networks. Check to make sure it is showing the connection. If it is, click on the SSID (connection) and there should be a connect button towards the bottom of the screen. Click on that. Also check to make sure that the Wireless Network Connection is enabled. If all else fails, call your ISP.

You modem/router should come with a manual & CD.
If you follow the instruction well you should be able to catch a signal.

Now did you check if XP can see your wireless card??

Go to start>control panel> network connection> and if you see an item like your modem , you should see a wireless card as well.
The wireless card needs to be enabled. Right click on it and enable it.

But if your modem comes with wireless capabilities it is then the provider responsability to walk you through. Call them if what I posted did not solve any of your issues.

use a patch cable to connect to the router...

for starters, setup dhcp on the router and setup an ssid, which is also called the "network name" for your wireless connection.

setup your laptop or pc wireless link with the same ssid and as a dhcp client.

That's it other than securing your wireless connection
