Look the motherboard up on the manufacturer's website, or type the make + model number into a search engine, but for the Intel Core2 Duo it should be equipped to handle "Socket 775" processors + the Intel 965P / Intel 975X chipset

First off, you need to know which motherboard you're running and then you can look up the specs through the manufacturers website to see compatibility. If you're running a name brand pc, like a Dell or HP, you'll have to go to their site and track down the specs for that model # pc, then you'll be able to find compatibility. If you listed the pc, I could've looked it up for you by now.

you need to find the make and manufacturer of your motherboard, go to the manufactures website and see what processors are compatible with it...
