Unfortunately, rats only live from 2-3 years. Sorry. I have two rats and their lives are over half way through. But that's ok. Just spoil them on their birthdays, they only get a few. Hope this helps!

Usually their life span is 2-3 years. I have had one that lived about 3 1/2 years, and the rat my nephew has right now is coming up on 3 years. We have also had some that only lived just over 1 year. Rats are very prone to tumors..and don't live as long as we would like them to... but they make wonderful pets, so don't let their short lives turn you away from having one in your home. They are great friends.

I had one that was 3 1/2 and that was considered OLD for a rat. I had him ever since he was about 6 weeks old. He had a great life. In the end he was deaf, blind and started showing signs of paralysis. He stopped eating shortly after that so I brought him to the vet to have him put down. My other rats were anywhere from 2 1/2 to 3 years old.

They are GREAT pets but the downfall is that they don't live very long even with EXCELLENT care.

I had 7 rats who were excellently cared for. They died at 2 1/2 yrs, 3 yrs, 19 months, 2 yrs and the rest at 21 mths. People will tell you they can live 3-4 yrs. but if you get one that lives to 3. You are LUCKY! The average is 1 1/2 yrs.

the lifespan of a rat is anywhere from 2-3 years. But like with anything you have some that life longer and some shorter. Don't let the short lifespan stop you though they make great pets.

Generally rats live from 2-3 years.

However, their lifespan usually correlates with where you acquire them from. Rats acquired from pet stores or similar venues are not bred for health or longetivity and as such, they usually live from 1-2 years (3, if you're lucky).

A rat acquired from a reputable breeder, who breeds for longetivity and health, can live 3-4 years (sometimes even 5).
