If you're not far from M25, take it going clockwise. Then M40 North, to junction 3A and join M42 North. At junction 9 get in right hand lane and take the M6 toll road round Birmingham (NB Norton Canes services is a good place to stop).
Continue on and pay at toll booth, then rejoin M6 toll free. Leave M6 at junction 19 and follow signs to Manchester

Windsor is virtually on the M4. Get on it and head for London, turn off on M25, bear left, away from Heathrow. M40 looms up, get on it, M42 for short while, then M6, into Cheshire and follow signs telling you to turn for Manchester,[M56] easy. 4 hours on good day.

Travel west on M4 to Jcn 8/9, then get onto A404 to M40, follow M40 towards Birmingham an Pick up M42 (North West) follow M42 then on to M6 (toll Rd) and then you get to proper M6, . Depending on which part of M/cr your heading for, Jcn 19 (m6) for Sth M/cr or jcn 21 (M62 Leeds) for central or Nth M/cr... journey should take about 3.5- 4hrs
