Whenever there's a discussion on politics, the whole world understandably comes down on America. But more recently it seems whenever _any_ topic comes up, people are quick to attack Americans regardless of how irrelevant nationality is to the subject.

I'm wondering if Canadians truly feel superior to Americans, or if politics is clouding everything. I haven't visited Canada recently, but a friend of mine who recently visited said he was actually accosted by the natives on a recent trip once they found out he was an American.

Last time I did visit I was shocked to find that, if anything, their quality of life is higher than ours. I find it somewhat amusing that they feel the need to bash common Americans, based solely on that single identifier, when they are almost totally dependent on their relationship with us (as we are them -- we're mutually biggest trading partners).

I know this probably sounds like an underhanded insult, but I really want to know if this is how they feel.

You're hilarious. Your question states: "Why do Canadians feel they are morally superior to Americans", yet you advise us to "some respect for the greatest country on earth". A little bit of arrogance on your part huh? Canadians don't think they are morally superior...most of us are just glad we're not American. The US, as they say, is a nice place to visit, but you wouldn't want to live there. Liferyder: we go to get a job in the States as they are a little more plentiful, but we bring the money home back to Canada becuase of OUR better standard of living. If the standard of living was better in the US, wouldn't that lead one to conclude that they Canadians would not only work in the US, but they'd move there as well???

Hi there,
I am Candian and I really shouldnèt be answering this question since there is no way to prove something like to you as there is no concrete proof to give you.

Personally, I feel like American constantly promote their country to other countries saying, "I'm proud to be an American" and Iève always wondered, WHY??? As well, when I worked in the tourism business in Canada, the majority of Am,ericans were very ignorant about our country, asking me if I lived in an igloo in the winter. Yes, yes. I leave my HOUSE with it's INDOOR PLUMBING in minus 20 weather to live in an IGLOO. ANd I do it just so you can ask me about it.

In no way do I feel superior to American because I'm Canadian. I love to go to the states. I have family that live in California and Texas. I like goign to Vermont to snowboard, and to New York to shop. But seriously, if I had to choose which one over the two, to live in, I,d choose Canada. (And maybe this is why many Canadians do feel Superior to America) Because:
-Less violence / muders / guns
-Free health care (Medicare)
-Cheper (but equal to America's) higher education
-Our troops are sent to war torn countries as Peace Keepers, not to start a war.

I'm proud to be a Canadian, just like you are proud to be an American. We both have the right to say it, and we both have our reasons why we say it. It doesn't mean we think we're beter than everyone else.

I've met a lot of Canadians, and I've never had the feeling they felt either superior or inferior. They were just friendly, open people who worked for a living and tried to get by like the rest of us. Of course, I don't wave the flag in their faces, either. And trust me: Having Bush in the White House shouldn't make ANY American feel superior.

I have a number of relatives who are Canadian who do not ever demostrate any type of feeling superior or inferior to Americans. They seem to treat us as equals as I believe feel my attitude and most Americans are to them. Mostly there are just jokes but nothing behind them between the two nations.

Good Luck!!!

I'm a Canadian and I definitely don't feel superior to Americans. I think that a lot of Canadians bash Americans because it is easier to find things wrong with someone else then to acknowledge our own shortcomings. Since we have very different government agendas, maybe some people just don't see how there could be any other way but "our way".

I can't speak for ALL Canadians, but I don't feel superior to Americans. We're equal, or under you guys if anything. We just do things a little bit different... better maybe. We don't harass Americans when they come here though...1 person can't speak for a whole country. We don't start wars for no reason, or to act big and tough...We just keep to ourselves.

Yeah, of course they think they're superior because they're jerks!! I think the reason why everyone uses the US as a scapegoat is because we're so much more powerful than them, and they still feel the need to pick on us even though we've helped everyone at some time or another. And because Americans are cool.

I'll skip the text and go right to the question. Superior? Maybe more relieved that they are not.
