In the past years the Avs were doing a lot better. What is with them?

Hey,

I am a HUGE Avs fan (although now I live in San Antonio).

The Avs last year were actually quite similar to this year. As a matter of fact until mid-January they were not even in the playoff picture, but turned it on and were able to get in as a 7 seed which is still not that great, but had an amazing series against Dallas (I was at the clinching game!!!).

Anyway, they have some struggles on defense, and some suspect goatending. They are very inconsistent and seem to win one or two, lose one or two. The good news is the division is not very good this year and the Avs are still in the hunt to win it. If I were to rank them in terms of the other NHL teams they would be right about average.

Don't worry though, they have a good YOUNG team that has no problem scoring goals (they are 3rd in the league in goal scoring). Hopefully they can improve their defense and they will be back to being the best!

A few problems have bitten into the Av's this year. They had to trade Tanguay away for Leopold who just came back from injury. A lot of their stars are getting older (Sakic, Hedjuk, Brunette, etc.) Plus Theodore has looked horrible for ever since they got him.

That being said, they are only 5 points out of first place in their division right now. They still have a shot with more than half the season left.

The Avalanche could have a stable threat with Calgary estimated to loose some stable gamers to loose enterprise that would go away the 8th seed open for the aves to take. in spite of the undeniable fact that, they might desire to play puzzling an entire season, no longer in easy terms component of it. and that they've sakic coming back for yet another season so thats consistently a stable element. Stastny and Wolfski(sp?) are the two coming back for their 2d 3 hundred and sixty 5 days and in the event that they play like they did of their first season the aves could have a much greater useful shot. i do no longer see any extensive names coming to Colorado, yet i do no longer think of they choose it. i see them making a run. yet to hold back the cup they might desire to so plenty greater useful then 06-07.

Because they have Jose Theodore...haha. I live in the Montreal area and I kind of miss him here because before he was traded he was treated as a joke. Here are 2 examples
1) Jose Theodore attempted to take his own life today by throwing himself infront of a train. Fortunately for Theodore, the train went between his legs and he was spared.
2)(When Theo was being pulled in almost every game before his departure) The reason why Theodore wears #60 is because of his dream to one day actually play a full 60 minutes in an NHL game.
....ah, good times : )

Hmmm let's see they have gotten rid of most of their good players and their defense is as old as the hills and they went out and got Theodore for a goalie and he is not the most steady goalie in the league to say the least. You can't even say Hejduk and Sakic are bright spots as they are not doing much either. In short too many old guys too many young guys who have not played together so no chemistry and a mediocre goalie.

They have lost the team captain Adam Foote and their coach is getting a little too comfortable with the team he has

Simple, they got rid of most of their star players (tanguay, blake, forsberg). There is no player that can make up for that talent.....even though they still have sakic and hejduk, i think they have lost some of their edge, yes?

That's the reason why Pierre Lacroix got out as a GM.

No Patrick Roy, no Peter Forsberg, no decent goaltending, they are old and slow and rebuilding!
