I was intrigued by an earlier post about the number of female respondents saying they prefer a strong man who is physically built and confident because:
1.) Muscles on men are sexy
2.) They prefer a man who can protect a woman
3.) A man who is a provider is considered a turn on... whether it be physically, financially, or emotionally.

Now my question is this... isn't that plain sexist? Is this how society and the mass media have fabricated our views on what men or women should be? THink of thin, beautiful women and women who don't fit in that category.

Do some of you think this is natural instincts or society's way of molding our lives?

No it isn't sexist. They stated why the like strong men as a rule. The reasons stated don't mean the have one or only settle for one. I perfer a skinny woman but that don't mean I have one. It is just law of nature my friend.

It is all SOCIETY!! My husband is 6'1" and 268 lbs. He has muscle mass and definition but he is far from perfect. I do not like those musclebounded men with no penises. I make more money than him but he is still the king in our castle. He provides for the family just as I do. WE both are the providers. WE both Protect each other. Some women look to muscle men so others won't talk about how ordinary their man looks. I like ordinary. Don't these women realize as soon as that man is not able to work out all that muscle will be FLABBY!!!

It is both natural instinct (based on archaic and somewhat outdated survival needs) and a social creation.
Research has also shown that women don't want men who are TOO sexy and good-looking, because they are more likely to be unfaithful, and therefore not good providers. Instinctively, women want healthy, virile, dependable mates, just as men do... which kinda evens things out nicely.

However, the purpose of having an educated mind to be able to look at our biological needs and social imperiatives objectively, and to either follow or reject those demands as we choose... not as they would choose for us.

It depends on the individual. I may be the exception to the rule but I work out a lot and I am legitimately stronger than my husband (that is not a put down to him) and I know a few other women stronger than their guys too. In general, men are more often than not going to be stronger than women but as I said it depends on the individual and whether one gender works out and the other doesn't. The same thing applies mentally as well. As I read here many of you are saying women are smarter. I would like to say that myself, hee hee but it depends on the individual as well. In fact, men actually have a slightly higher IQ on average than women, and more men are college professors and do well on shows like Jeopardy.

It completely natural for a woman to want to be with a strong, not very emotional, providing man. No matter what some feminists say...its completely natural to want to be with someone that can be a man and take care of you in every way.

I think society would function better personally if everyone just took their natural traditional roles instead of trying to reverse them.

Thats just my opinion.

i no what you mean.people can be very shallow about how people should look. it doesn't help with all these models and anorexic pop stars on the front of almost every mag and sleazy papers. naturally both men and woman shouldn't be full muscles but slightly toned and slim but it shouldn't matter what one looks like its whats on the inside that's important.beauty is only skin deep.
