Then 47% of n = 40,000,000
ie 0.47 x n = 40,000,000
So n = 40,000,000/0.47
≈ 85,106,383 (nearest whole number)
If you want to check:
47% of 85,106,383
= 0.47 x 85,106,383
= 40,000,000.01 (error is from the rounding off)

I think you divide 40,000,000 by 47 then that gives you 1%. Then times that by 100.
so...
40,000,000 divided by 47= 851063.83
then...
851063.83 x 100= 85106383

you need to cross multiply. 47 = 40,000,000 and 100 = x so 47x = 4,000,000,000 then divide both sides by 47. that should do it.
