You can wear them, but I wouldn't. First, you're likely to be falling in and out of sleep during labor. Then when you wake up your eyes will be dried out and that is really not something you want to hassle with. If you need emergency surgery, you cannot wear them and yes, they could be taken out but when your life or your baby's life is at stake do you want to take the time to remove your lenses? Just wear your glasses. I hate to wear my glasses but did so during the birth of my daughter and honestly the fact that I was wearing glasses instead of contacts never really was an issue, my mind was on more important things. There will be a lot going on during labor and delivery and contacts is really not something you want to hassle with.

I don't see why you can't wear contact lens while giving birth. I wear contacts but last pregnancy I just took them out and wore my eyeglasses for the birth. It seemed like it would be easier for some reason.
And as far as the person who said you cannot wear earings.. welll I wore earings. I guess each hospital has a different policy.
Good LUck and Congrats

You know, I wasn't going to answer this question because I don't know anything about contacts and labor/delivery, but I read what Ajsarabia wrote and it p*ssed me off.
Contacts have NOTHING to do with the baby's health. And they have nothing to do with vanity. Some people do not have glasses, or they've lost them, and rely only on contacts. If you had a baby (which it sounds like you probably don't or you would be more compassionate) you wouldn't want to see it for the first time out of focus because you're eyes are screwed up.
Jerk.

I wore my for both my children's births and nothing happened. No one asked if I had any in. When I was pregnant with my son (now 4) the doctor wanted me to take my belly button ring out and I never did. (nothing happened) but when I became pregnant with my daughter last year - it just popped out! (I wore my rings and earrings too - for both birth's)

Good Luck and Congratulations.

I believe most hospitals make you take them out. My sister had to wear her glasses instead. It has something to do with the chance of having surgery I think. Some women request to use theirs on their birth plan, with the stipulation that they will take them out if they have to have a c-section. You should ask your doctor what your hospital's policy is.

You eyeballs can change shape from the pressure of pushing, its temporary and your contacts might fall out because of the change of the basecurve.

Iam wearing mine during labor, and my friend wore hers through two, and another friend through her first labor.

I think its just a precationary thing. Not a rule.

I wore my contacts and even forgot my contact case so I had to sleep in them, no one said anything about it when I brought it up.

Good luck

Because if they are in too long they may stick to your eye and scratch it. You never know how long you will be in labor or if you will have complications. I'd take them out.
