We take our own trash & recyclables to the dump here in Alaska, but in Oregon where our families live my dad, brother & mother-in-law pay 15.50 a month or something like that depending on the size of the can. The recyclables are picked up as a courtesy.

I live in New Jersey and I am sure it is incorporated in our home taxes somewhere! We have pick-up every other Monday - and Bulk day once a month. (where you can put everything out on your curb including furniture and they take it) If I had to pay I would figure around $25.00 a month.
