I have had the same problem before, make sure its fully charged. If it is you might have a problem with the wire connecting from your laptop to the screen. Sorry i cant help you =[

Could be that the video output is redirected from the display to the external port. Most laptops have a display toggle where you can switch the display from the screen, to the external monitor, or to both. Look for a Fn key and another usually blue key with a computer monitor on it. Try pressing both a couple of times.
