A Wrinkle in Time (winner of a major fiction award) by Madeleine L'Engle, and also the other two novels in this trilogy--A Wind in the Door and A Swiftly Tilting Planet.
You might try Elizabeth Goudge, a bit dated, had lots of best sellers. Lived in England: The Herb of Grace, The Dean's Watch (classic, heart-warming story of a manic depressive). The Rosemary Tree (try Amazon.com).

How about a classic, maybe something like Tale of Two Cities. Something alittle scary? try Stephen King's The Girl Who Loved Tom Gorden. More contemporary? Life of Pi. Comedy? Anything by Douglas Adams, his books are all clean. Anything fantasy is usually clean except the Oddessy. And of course there is always Harry Potter.

Try some of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. The series is about a female bounty hunter who gets herself into some hilarious predicaments. There is some mild language but nothing outrageous.

I totally agree with the Janet Evanovich books!! They are great reading!! You will not be able to put them down. It's not often that I laugh out loud reading a book, but she is a very entertaining writer.

There are many, many good novels.
I recommend "The Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follet.
It takes place in the 12th century. You will not be able to put it down.
