Hi Jacqui
First, you have to start with attitude. If you go into the homework session with an idea it is boring or stupid or no fun or whatever then you will actually influence how you view it.

You might approach homeword as a series of challenges. For instance, if you are answering homework problems, I would set a goal each day and if you make the goal, give yourself a reward. Focus on the fun you are going to have when you get the reward. For instance, if you said, "My goal today is to finish 20 questions in 30 minutes and when I do I am going to have a banana split," then you can challenge yourself to meet or exceed the goal.

One caution... don't set your goals too low or they will have no effect. Make it something you have to stretch a bit for. Perhaps the goals could be continuous study for 30 minutes, or 15 minutes of study, a 10 minutes break, 15 minutes of study, a 10 minute break, etc. until done. Break the big piece into smaller pieces and reward yourself for success.

You will find that when you start enjoying the rewards, it will impact your study habits and make it all tolerable.

Oh... one more thing. Make sure your friends know your study schedule so the don't call you during this time. Avoid all outside contact and you take control of your time. I know you can do it and I hope you find a way to use goals to help you. Good luck.

Hey Jacqui,

Two things will make math homework easier for you. One, when you start, put a smile on your face. Even if you force it, smile at the problems. Then, 2, do a little extra, by looking up techniques for the same type of problem on the internet - seeing if you can get really smart at it. You get out of something what you put into it. Math is the language of all things around us, and practical applications are everywhere - relate to the and smile.

you need to find a way to make it interesting for you...

math is like a puzzle... plan to study with someone who would like to study in couples and compete who will solve the math problem first.. compare the way you solve the problems... once you understand how math works it will be easier for you and more fun too... try to look at it like you are playing a game and not solving a boring math - competition against friend can be a key.. and "celebration" after you are done studying... reward yourselves with something

If you understand it and don't really need help with it, but just hate it my advice is to do it first and make it quick.... my step-daughter comes home every day and draws her math homework out - simply cuz she doesn't want to do it, but if she would concentrate for 10 min she could have finished all of it... then do what she wanted.... so try and get it over with... not doing it = fail... so I def don't advise that.
