What if i don't have a bank account, SS card? I only have a driver's license.
I am a German Citizen fixing to marry an US Citizen.
Do i still have to go to the SS office and DMV?
Can i just change it after i get married and then start accounts etc?!

It will not be "automatically" changed. You have the option of changing it by 1)just start using your married name or 2) start changing your name on your accounts, driver's license, social security card, etc. You will need the signed marriage certificate to complete the change on these official documents.

You go to the Social Security office with your marriage certificate and apply. In about 4-6 weeks your new SS card will show up and then you get your new drivers license.

After the marriage, get a copy of the final marriage certificate. Go to Social Security and get it changed there, then you have to go to DMV and get it changed and a new copy of your license. Send a copy of the Marriage certificate to your major creditors and walk in to your bank with those papers and get your accounts changed. After that, you should be all good.

You have to do it yourself. Go to social security office with marriage license and fill out some paper work. They will send you a new social security card with your new last name on it, then you take that and go to the dmv and have your drivers license changed and viola! it's all official.

Your names does not automatically change.

After you get married, get a certified copy of your marriage certificate.

Then my suggestion is go to Social Security and get your name changed there first, this is the easiest way.

Then change your driver's license, state id. Once your official documents are changed, then you go and change everything else such as credit cards, health insurance etc...

Go to the DMV first...this will aid you with the SS card process.
Your financial institution should be your very next step.

Don't forget to plenty of copies of your marriage certificate b/c you will need to send one to most of the utility companies, credit card companies and your place of work in order to have your name changed

I am not sure if all states are the same or not. But, I know that when I adopted my daughter we had to change her last name we went to the courthouse and paid for the name change. I had to show adoption records youll probably have to show marriage certificate.
