Simple, Puerto Ricans do not want to (statehood option has always been defeated in the elections) and the US congress avoids having a spanish latin state that is populated by 4 million who are proud to be puerto rican first, they have never given the statehood option never ever...

Puerto Ricans do not want to loose their nationality (puertorican), their national flag, their spanish language, their culture, their identity, their olympic national team (see link below) ...it goes on and on...

they look at Hawaii, hawaiians lost it all (language, flag, identity, culture ) and became a minority in their own land...puerto rico is smarter than that!

It's not our choice. The United States decides if they want to make us a state or not. But why would they want to? They already use our land for military bases, we fight in your wars (front row I might add, we are considered expendable), we are considered a great location for commerce. So it's not in our hands. That shows that most of you are very ignorant when it comes to Puerto Rico. Before answering, try to learn spanish and a little history. We know everything about you, but I'm sure none of you have any idea about what is going on over here.

Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory with commonwealth status. They're something like 1,000 miles from the mainland U.S. (though that didn't stop Hawaii and Alaska).

And it'd be a ***** to try to organize 51 star on the flag...

Because if they did then the Puerto Ricans would not be able to have those stupid Puerto Rico flags hanging from their rearview mirrors.

That might be simply a different welfare state, like the big apple, florida and california. Why might any operating American ever wish to pay extra taxes to fund a different welfare state? Not I!!

they've got it made! they dont have to worry about paying taxes to the feds, or getting involved in the mainland politics... they just chill and take care of themselves knowing that we've got their backs anyway.
