Vance and Hines Motorcycle Exhaust?

Question

I have a 1998 Suzuki Intruder 1500 with a Vance and Hines Exhaust which rattles. Does anyone know some practical inexpensive way to stop the rattle. I have tightened the baffles and checked all the bolts so I believe the problem is inside the pipes.

--First you have to find out where the rattle is coming from.
--Start the bike
--Hold a rag at the end of the mufflers (to quiet down the exhaust).
--With a rag or while wearing gloves (cheap things like you use for gardening), start grabbing different parts of the exhaust pipes.
--If you can't find anything on the outside of the pipes, stick a broom stick (or whatever fits) into the ends of the pipes while the bike is running and put some sideways pressure on the baffles to see if they're loose.

if it is a rattle like rocks bouncing around inside the mufflers then it comes from the packing in the baffles coming loose. Either remove the baffles (if possible) and make the bike much louder or repack them. Generally manufacturers offer repack kits or you could use rock wool and garden wire.

also check the tightness at the manifold. does the bike have a cross-over? see if it's loose if u have a cross-over. u might have a mounting bracket coming loose, or maybe a heat shield.
