It's a part of human nature...and also a product of our society. Society has a tendency to enhance the basic human faults to a huge degree, which is why I suppose I don't fit in with society in a lot of ways. I value my material possessions less and less with each passing year(or day or month, etc.) of my life. They're not as important to me as they once were because I know deep in my heart the things that are truly important in life :)

product of society, way back when (you pick a time) people only had what they needed and did not worry about luxuries. Now we have evolved into a society that bases our lives by the items we own or will own. Life is not about material possessions but about LIFE! the lives of our loved ones and our own lives should be the most important thing not what we own.

I think it's a product of society. I'm not personally like this, but as I see it, society rates success and riches by how much they own. Did you ever see "It's a wonderful life"? At the end George's brother toasts him and says "here's to george, the richest man around". Although people were throwing money at him, that's not why he was rich. He was rich because of his family and the love and respect he had EARNED from his community.

I think it's a product of society. The more things you have, the "better off" you are. That's not always the case, but people think you are doing better, because you have more things.

Product of our society. I think we are told that successful "popular" people have the best of the best. I don't agree. I'm content with my simple little self.

I think it's both. We all have the 'nesting' instinct. However, some ppl are satisfied with nothing, or with little. So, it's an individual thing too.

Children are possessive and if people don't grow up, they remain possessive.
