In the US the gears go 1 3 5 accross the top and 2 4 R accross the bottom.

do they go in the same order in the UK?

yes exactly the same. its a universally setup. the only difference is reverse on some cars is next to first making it r 1 3 5 across the top and only 2 and 4 on the bottom

And F.Y.I. the petals are in the same order, too (accelerator on right, clutch on the left, and brake in the middle)
