An "OFFICIAL" is usually a person that's been put in charge of something. Like at a road race or a gala. The officials usually are the know-it-all people that assist you at an event or gig. They are important to keep things in order at a place where there are going to be many people! Hope that helps and Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

There is no such word as "offical." However, people who are acting under the authority of an office that they hold are said to be "officials" or acting in an "official" capacity. Also, people duly appointed by and officeholder to serve a particular function are said to be "official" (job function here). It goes to the authority of a person to do what it is that they are doing.
