Personally and emotionally, I wouldn't mind if abortions are legal. Many people are better off not being born. However, when I look at the facts and come to a logical conclusion, I believe that abortion Shouldn't be legal. This is producing cognitive dissonance. Please, tell me why abortion should be legal but killing a one month old infant shouldn't be. Why can't mothers legally kill their 2 yr olds if they can no longer support them, but the unborn child can die? Please, no god talk or "the bible says this or that." (If you can't offer an answer based in reality without resorting to supernatural presumptions, then your answer will be ignored.) I want rational explanations with valid logical conclusions. Namely--other than safety concerns for the mother--what criteria differentiates an unborn infant from the other infants that makes their death acceptable?

I appreciate your intellectual honesty. Abortion is not okay, based simply on the scientific fact that every abortion kills an innocent human being. Killing innocent human beings in Iraq is wrong, and killing them in the womb is wrong.

There are only four differences between born children and unborn children: size, level of development, environment, and degree of dependence. None of these should determine our right to live. You are not more "human" or more worthy of life than a three-year-old child because you are bigger and more developed than she. Nor is there anything magical about the passage down the birth canal and the resulting change of environment that somehow transforms us into a human being worthy of life and protection. As far as dependence goes, a born infant is still utterly dependent on his mother or caregiver. Left alone, he will die. This doesn't mean we have the right to kill him.

On a side note, over 475 American physicians so far have signed a statement saying abortion is never necessary to save the life of a mother:

1) The unborn baby is alive based on the accepted scientific definition that Living organisms are made up of one or more cells, can grow and develop, reproduce, respond to stimuli, and have a metabolism. Unborn female babies have ALL of their ova (reproductive eggs) in their ovaries that they will ever have IN THEIR LIFETIMES. The unborn baby responds to touch, sound, light, taste and other stimuli. The unborn baby is obviously made up of one or more cells. The unborn baby grows and develops constantly while in the womb. The unborn baby has a metabolism that works by using the nutrients supplied through the umbilical cord, since the baby cannot yet eat or drink via the mouth.

2) Since the unborn baby is a living organism, he or she must belong to one of any of the thousands of species having been identified to date, which is obviously Homo sapiens (human being).

3) Since the unborn baby is a living human being, to kill him or her is murder, which is defined as: MURDER - noun - The killing of another human being outside of self-defense. In the U.S., special statutory definitions include murder committed with malice aforethought, characterized by deliberation or premeditation or occurring during the commission of another serious crime, as robbery or arson (first-degree murder), and murder by intent but without deliberation or premeditation (second-degree murder).

4) Many who are "pro-choice" rationalize that abortion should be legal because the unborn baby is "living off of their bodies, and is therefore not viable". Many even sickeningly imply that the unborn baby is a "parasite". This is simply semantics. Consider that a newborn baby is just as dependent on the mother for its survival as a baby in utero. It's a ridiculous argument. At some point all of the weak arguments being used by the pro-abortion lobby will be shot down cold, and then the only thing they will have left is "a mother has the right to kill her unborn baby simply because his or her existence will be displeasing to her". It is at this point that their true disdain for human life will be bared for all to see.

You know, the Nazis justified the “extermination” of Jews by dehumanizing them and calling them “vermin”; American slaveowners justified the enslavement of African people by dehumanizing them and decreeing that they were only 3/5ths of a person. These atrocities were all legal at one time, and I think that we can all agree that they were morally wrong, legal or not. Abortion will one day be illegal again, freeing unborn babies AND women from the death sentence that is abortion. After all, if it is legal to kill an unborn child, how long do you think it will be before it will be legal to kill BORN children for the same reasons given for killing the UNborn. Then who knows, maybe someone will come up with a "good" reason to kill YOU.

I don't think abortion is OK. Killing the helpless unborn cheapens life for everyone.
