I am sure you and your friend are close and you don't want to leave her because you would hate to start over but you actually don't have to do that. If you know her addresss and phone number then you can correspond with her through that or e-mail if she has a computer. You know you have to tell her and the longer you wait the harder it will be and the worse it will get. She might mad at you that you waited too long to tell her but if she is any kind of friend to you then she will understand and do the best she can. In the future don't wait so long to tell something like that. You will be better off that way in the long run.

Make a scrapbook of things you and your friend did together. Include "inside jokes" and stories you have. Include all the pictures you can find and put little captions under the pics. Then in the back of the book write a contract that says something to the effect of: "We have been best friends and created many good memories. We this day vow to never forget, and to do everything in our power to make more memories together in the future.
Sit down with your friend and show them the book, talk about you leaving and then both of you sign the contract in the back.

I moved away from my best friend when I was 14. We stayed in contact with letters (that was before email). But you have a great advantage with the internet and being able to stay in contact with friends far away.

I am now 31 and my best friend and I are closer than ever. We have been friends since we were 11. True friends will be understanding.

If you barely get tot talk to her then maybe you are not so close to this person, but you need to go talk with that person or call them and tell them that you are moving, when you are moving, and where you are going. Maybe the move is not such a big deal as you think.

YOUR best bet is to tell her as soon as possible, don't wait until the last minute, if you wait to long to tell her she's going to hear ir from someone else and thats going to hurt her even more..
that way you have a year to spend as much time with her a you can over hte next year..
DON"T WAIT

Talk to her one on one and tell her the truth and try to make the most of your last year with her. When you do move it is possible to keep connected to her.

Honey, just tell her. She will understand and there is always the phone, e-mail and snail mail. I have had a friend since jr. high and I'm a grandma now. Just stay in touch. When you get older you can visit back and forth.

i would just be straight forward about it. your friend is going to find out sooner or later, and if you don't tell her straight up, she's going to be a little suspicious when you're not around and your house is empty. i just went through a huge move (to a different country!) and having my best friends know about it and how i felt about it really helpped
