You don't connect 2 PCs with an USB.
XP offer file sharing already all you need is a router then you can view and share files & folder between the 2 PCs.

You can connect 2 PCS with an USB when you transfer files between each other but you need a software for that an USB is not enough. THis done when you have an old PC and you want to transfer all your files into the new PC.
