Some people have an innate fear of the water, which causes a small panic when they attempt to swim. Perhaps this is what is troubling you.
First, try to float. Do this in water you can stand up in! (Also, salt water makes floating easier, so if you're near a beach try that) Lie back, tilt your head way back (so the top of your forehead touches the water), arms and legs splayed out and take a deep breath and hold it. Your toes and hands, chest and head will stay above water. Try breathing in this position. Realize that when you let your breath out, you will sink slightly. Don't panic, just keep breathing. You'll stay afloat. Keep yourself calm; once you've mastered this, try the "dead man's float" (on your stomach), turning your head to the side to breathe. This just gets you comfortable in the water.
Once you feel your comfort level rising, you will have no problem learning how to swim. Take lessons or have a friend who knows how teach you the basics.

Kids, especially young kids, absorb things so easily that it just isn't fair to the adult world. However, since you can't turn the clock back, what you can do at this point is ignore the five-year old porpoises, sign up for swimming lessons and stick with it. Swimming is one of those funny skills that can be very awkward to learn at first, because so much is going on at the same time. You have to learn to kick, to stroke, to breathe -- all at the same time. But once you learn, it becomes so simple and so relaxing.
When you're taking your lessons, ignore everyone else. It's easy to convince yourself that everyone is watching you, but in truth, they are not. Half the people at the pool aren't wearing their glasses, to begin with, and the other half are busy doing their own thing. So forget about them and just pay attention to, and work with, your instructor.
Have fun out there.

don't be too embarrassed to take swim lessons also swimming takes many muscles and is considered a great sport for conditioning. just take it slow and go step by step if you are looking to swim freestyle breaststroke and other strokes then you should practice a ton to get stronger and if you are just looking to swim for fun then you just have to wade in the water and move. some people just aren't born to swim.

Sorry if this sound rant-y through fact i'm no longer attempting to. Synchro is heavily greater sturdy than people think of. For all the persons who disagree with me attempt this: you are the different way up for a minute at the same time as shifting your legs above water in sync which incorporate your teammates. you will no longer be able to pop up/breathe whenever you please and you may't relax till your recurring is over. you will no longer be able to touch the backside. persons are kicking your legs, physique, face, etc. and it quite is not basically smiling at the same time as doing random arm strikes. a minimum of attempt a interest in the past saying "*insert interest right here* is quite undemanding" the only time synchro is easy is once you're in beginner. Intermediate isn't undemanding. people say in basic terms age team is tough, yet it quite is through fact they have already been doing synchro for some years. We raise swimmers interior the water, and we gained't use the backside of the pool. nonetheless thinks its undemanding? attempt it.

It is difficult because you did not learn when you were younger. Kind of like learning a new language is harder when you arent brought up speaking it. It is possible though. You can do it, you just need to set your mind to it and trust whoever it is that is teaching you. Do not try to teach yourself, because if you dont know it how can you teach it? You can do it, it will just be tough. Good Luck!
