So I recently decided to go back to school, and started in the 2006 Spring semester at my local JC. I have my eye on UC Berekely because they have an awesome psychology department! (which is what I want to major in)

I know I won't be able to transfer for a while, but I was wondering what other criteria (besides good grades) can I do to make me an ideal transfer student? I've been doing volunteer work for a while, but is there any other activities that I should be involved in that might interest the admissions people?

LOL - Sure thing Juniperol... So says the mediocre student who couldn't make the grade. Whine on.

I graduated from CAL last year. It's an incredible place to go. You have absolute control over your education, how you structure you major, and the resources are amazing. No matter what your interest, anything you can dream of, you have world class expertise. Plus the campus is gorgeous and the Bay Area is fantastic.

The education is first class and no degree is more prestigious, but you have to work your tail off there. Good grades and good letters of recommendation are essential. Try to lead activities in your church or volunteer work or something like that. The more you can do to show you have initiative, that you're innovative, and that you will use your degree to change the world for the better, the better your chances.

People like mr. mediocre student above may think that's a bunch of BS. But when you're learning Psyche from a Nobel Laurette, and you're conducting undergrad research with the best investigators in the world, alongside the most intelligent students in the world, you know that changing the world is exactly what they are preparing you for.

Look into transfer programs at various JC's. Certain schools have relationships with certain UC's. A more formal track towards transferring if you will, altho you can theoretically get accepted from any JC.

My friend went to Cal Berkeley. I would suggest demonstrating that you're capable of stamping your feet and shrieking about how bad America is....lol.

college activities.. clubs and stuff.. you don't need to be a member of a lot of clubs, you just need to choose one or two and be active in it.
