You can't! Find the nearest suicide line and the next time he brings it up give it to him! Tell him that you are concerned about him but he needs professional help, if he is seriously contemplating it. He might just be looking for attention, but there are better ways to get it, and you, unless qualified, are not capable to ferret out the reason (s)!
If he has a plan, he is seriously contemplating it!

Your friend might have serious problem and he might need some help with whatever is causing him to think about death, that is ultimately not good for the mind and will destroy him if he continues. If you sit down and talk to your friend about his thoughts and ask him why he is always thinking of death he might open up to you, you might want to suggest that he seek some professional help. Let him know you still want to be his friend and you are just looking out for him and want him to get better.

If talking to him doesn't help. Confide in someone that you trust. Never take "suicide talk" lightly. If he's talking about it. Then there's really some dark issues there. It's very important that the friend knows that you're there for him no matter what. If you worry for his safety, then talk to his parents, close friends, etc... This is a confidence that is ok to break. It involves someone's life!

Is this guy talking about death in general or talking about HIS death? If he is talking about his death or how he wants to kill himself maybe you should try and find out how to get in contact with someone else who might know him or his family. If this is someone you met online and don't really know him any other way maybe he is looking for your sympthy and a chance to say he wants to meet you. Watch out!

Don't chat with him for couple of days. When he will keep asking what happened to you, tell him that will happen if someone died...he can't answer. Then tell him you hear any discussion about death again he will not hear from you again.

Ask him why he is so obsessed with it. Maybe get him involved with a RPG group of the Vampire series. That will help him channel his dark side with his creative side. And get him to go to therapy. That would be the best thing.

Try changing the subject. If not than ask what's bothering him. He probably doesn't have anyone else to vent out about his feelings to and if he's a good friend try to help him out or get his mind off of it.

maybe you should just try to sit down and talk to him about the situation and explain to him that its wont make a difference to run away from your fears. its useless to ruin from your fears and by doing that he is just letting them feel powerful and he will just make whatever force over him take control and fell as if they have accomplished something

Tell him it bothers you and not to do it around you. If he is that good a friend than he'll quit making you uncomfortable.

He's crying out for attention so I suggest you tell a family member of his so they can get him some help.
