I think one good Idea to write about is the impact of technology over the past 20 years. I would suggest you focus on the internet and the IT field and convey the way information is shared with the world as now (internet) vs. 20 years ago (periodicles, radio, tv).

Google "technology" and see what comes up - there's a million ideas there begging to be written about - once you start it'll take you no time at all, and you'll have achieved something.
