Hi. I have a Linksys WRT54GS router and a Motorola SB4100 Cable Modem. I'm trying to set up a network so that all of my computers can connect to the internet.
If I connect the SB4100 modem directly to a single PC, the internet is working fine. But if I will connect the SB4100 modem to the Internet port of the router and after cloning the MAC address of the LAN adapter of my PC to the router, i do not get internet connection at all.
the weird thing is that the router status have all i need to connect to the internet. i get the domain name of my isp, my ip address on the internet (not the 192.168.xxx.xxx), a default gateway and 2 DNSs. they are the same informationi get when i connect directly from modem to PC that runs smoothly. on my computer, i get the usual 192.168.xxx.xxx from the router, the default gateway ip address of the router, etc. it seems that everything is fine.
am i missing something? please suggest all the necessary steps to solve this problem. thanks in advance.

if your router can provide DHCP address, all you need to do when setting your LAN card is : from the properties / TCP/IP protocol, tick "get an IP address automatically" and it should work a treat

If your cable modem works fine while be pluged to your PC then your troubles are minors.
First thing don't mess up your IP configuration, if you already did then go back and reset your IP configuration the way it was.
Now reset your wireless router. For that stick a pen in that small hole near the 4 lights and hold that pen for 1 minutes.
After your wireless router is at default re-run your CD router installation.
Make sure that your firewall does not prevent you from connecting, for that turn off the firewall and see if it is the issue if it is configure the firewall to allow your to connect.
I read that you need to contact your Internet provider to register your MAC that's crap if you can connect via your modem your MAC is already registered and you never need to register a router.
If you have more issues email me and I will walk you through the Universe of wireless freedom.
Joe.

Ensure that if your router has an uplink port that is the one that you use to plug the cable modem into and the PC's can go in any other port but not the "UPLINK" port this port removes the need for a crossover cable that would traditionaly be used to connect two like hardware devices. Also check to ensure that both cat-5 cables work this can be done by trying to plug dirrectly into the cable modem with both of them. 192.168.*.* is the default address that is given by routers that tells you that you are connected to the router not the internet.

You usually don't have to clone the MAC anymore. Try a hard reset of the router, then turn everything off. Power on the Modem and let it connect to your ISP. Then turn on the Router and see if you can connect to the internet from your computer.
Also, are you using DSL or a Cable ISP?

It could be that the modem will only talk to your computer. I have personally seen this before, but don't know how common it is. The modem does this by using MAC addresses.
Some routers have the capability to copy the MAC address of a different computer. Check to see if yours does, and have it copy the address of your PC.
Otherwise, I think you'll have to call the company and have them change the MAC address they have stored for your account to the router's.

That modem has a nuilt in router capable of supporting upto 31 enternet connections. You will either need to enter the router and "Bridge" the router to the modem so the router only works as a wireless access point and wired switch\hub, or return the router and purchase a wireless access point or switch\hub.
Here are the links relater to that modem
