it's like eating steak and worrying about getting e.coli. not all unpastuerized products have listeria, but it might so that's why it's best to steer clear.
so, if you aren't sick after eating it, then you are fine and just watch your labels next time!
take care:)

It is very rare. Also Listeria is found in SOIL AND WATER. So how paranoid are you going to be?
"What are the risks of a pregnant woman getting Listeriosis?
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an estimated 2,500 persons become seriously ill each year in the United States and among these, 500 will die. According to research, pregnant women account for 27% of these cases. The CDC claims that pregnant women are 20 times more likely to become infected than non-pregnant healthy adults."
So that is 675 pregnant women out of 4 million pregnant women. All of whom probably ate something like lunch meat, cheese, etc once or twice when pregnant. (I know I sure did)
Here are some symptoms:
"How will I know if I have Listeriosis?
Symptoms of Listeriosis may show up 2-30 days after exposure. Symptoms in pregnant women include mild flu like symptoms, headaches, muscle aches, fever, nausea and vomiting. If the infection spreads to the nervous system it can cause stiff neck, disorientation or convulsions. Infection can occur at any time during pregnancy, but it is most common during the third trimester when your immune system is somewhat suppressed. Be sure to contact your health care provider if you experience any of these symptoms"
Honestly I wouldn't worry though, ok?

OK...listeriosis......don't eat any unpasteurized food at all while pregnant. No soft cheeses or deli meats either. No raw, salt-cured, or smoked food either. Seafood has recently been cause for concern more because of mercury content than listeria...so you should avoid most of it. If you avoid these foods and keep a clean kitchen, you should be fine. Listeria is a food-borne illness that is spread through contamination due to incorrect food-handling and unsanitary conditions...similar to how e.coli spreads.

If listeria is a situation, pass the deli sandwich. No, listeria does not only result pregnant females. it could additionally heavily impression those with a compromised immune equipment and the elderly. My Dad's cousin died from problems of listeria poisoning final 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. He had a coronary heart circumstance and this made it undesirable actual speedy. He had only grew to become 60. we don't permit my Dad have ANY unheated deli meat and no deli cheese in any respect (by means of a pass an infection that handed off at a close by grocery deli 2 years in the past). We only parent he became fortunate so a ways to no longer fall ill.

It's possible to get listeria from unpasteurized foods. If you haven't gotten sick yet, don't worry too much about it but be careful in the future. You want to steer clear of unpasteurized cheeses and anything that isn't cooked properly.
I wouldn't worry too much but just mention it to your doctor at your next visit.
Congrats on your pregnancy!

I'm sure you are fine. You are also not supposed to eat deli meat with out heating it first. Personally, I feel that the food cautions can be a bit extreme.
By all means, Check with your doctor on your concerns. I crave feta cheese witht this pregnancy and I check to make sure that it is pasturized- In the future just make sure your caviar is pasturized.

All unpasturized uncooked foods contain bacterias that can potentially cause an infection too great for your immune system to handle on its own.
Its not to say you automatically get sick because you ate it.
Just watch for signs of infection. Flu-like symptoms. Especially violent vomitting and fever.
More likely than not you'll be just fine.
But for future reference, sea food is the biggest no-no to eat while pregnant. It contains high levels of the heavy metal murcury and leads to severe birth defects. NEVER eat caviar again while pregnant, and avoid uncooked fish, and pretty much all fish. Get the new seafood chart from your doctor, it will tell you when and how much of each kind of fish you can eat.
