Kwanzaa is celebrated from December 26th through January 1st.
The mishumaa saba (seven candles) are placed in the kinara (candle holder) in this order from left to right: three red candles, one black, and three green candles. The colors are symbolic: black for the people, red for their struggle, and green for the future and hope that comes from their struggle.
The black candle represents the first principle Umoja (unity) and is placed in the center of the kinara. The red candles represent the principles of Kujichagulia (self-determination), Ujamaa (cooperative economics), and Kuumba (creativity) and are placed to the left of the black candle. The green candles represent the principles of Ujima (collective work and responsibility), Nia (purpose) and Imani (faith) and are placed to the right of the black candle. The black candle is lit first on the first day of the celebration. And the remaining candles are lit afterwards from left to right on the following days. This procedure is to indicate that the people come first, then the struggle and then the hope that comes from the struggle.
Happy Kwanzaa

you must have a 7- hole kinara(candleholder), you can purchase white candle and paint them. One is black (represents the African people)and is placed in the center hole of the kinara. 3 candles are red(represents the blood shed by our ancestors) and 3 candles are green(represents Africa...the motherland). Kwanzaa is celebrated Dec.26 thru Jan1st. The African Swahili greetings are used for each day of celebration. A candle is lit on each day...for the seven day period...

nobody actually celebrates kwanzaa! it is a fake made-up holiday by some racist woman inmate in some prison who wanted to make a big stink over white people getting to celebrate christmas. apparently she thought she was too good for a white person holiday.
