Me and my boyfriend have been together for almost 3 years. We have a gorgeous 1 year old daughter, and live together in an apartment. We're both in college (he's almost done) and have little crappy jobs. We know we want to get married but we want to be more financially stable and at least one of us done with school...how long should we wait?

Wait until you are both done with school, so that you can get better jobs and afford the things you want. Marriage doesn't have to cost the earth. You don't have to have the huge white wedding. Just do what you can reasonably afford. I couldn't bear the thought of getting into debt over a big wedding. I was happy for a small wedding, just so long as we were married.

You have a child. The question of stability is rather silly at this point. Sorry, but the fact that you would postpone marriage until you are done with school and financially stable but would have a child under the circumstances you describe....kind of makes the whole when to get married issue a non issue.

Get married now. You need at least one part of your life settled.

If you wait until your financially stable, you will be waiting until your out of school and loans are paid off, about 15 years. Just go to the JP and pay $50 you have a child. . .maybe you should of thought about marriage and being financially stable 2 years ago.

If you want to wait until you are financially stable then you will have to wait until you both graduate and make good money in your career choice.

Question for you...................why is it so important to be financially stable? You are making ends meet now aren't you? So what is the difference?

Don't wait just do it. Just go to the Justice of Peace office and get it done officially. Then you can save up and have something to work for, like a big reception party etc.

These days, marriage is not like it was in the past. people are waiting until they are financially stable, and u ntil they are positive of their relationship working out. I recomend waiting until you can afford your dream wedding, and until you are sure you have your dream guy.

you answered your own question! it would be best if you don't rush into to things. get your degree, put some money in the back, get a place. and maybe if your still together get married. but people put so much hype on marriage that most people don't stay married for long.

Until it feels right. That may sound very nebulous, but you have to feel good about what you do. My first marriage did not work and I knew it deep inside from the beginning. Make sure it feels right then go for it.
