For a while I've been trying to figure out what modern day feminists in America are trying to accomplish. At first I was thinking they were doing what was done in the 50s movements; trying to gain equal rights. But then I remembered that women in America have the right to do everything now a days; vote, own property, run a buisness, you name it.

So my question is, what are they trying to do by calling themsleves feminist activists? what are they striving for?

i also noticed some hostility some of them showed towards men. So does that mean feminists are less physically attracted to males than other girls? please give an honest anwser about how you feel about this subject.

i think the whole reason the feminist are still around is because things may seem unfair to women at times and they wish to eliminate that also consider the fact that all these ideas are relatively new if you account that our species has been on the planet for thousands of years

I saw an interview with Girardi on YES before a game a few days ago and he said he didn't realize that it would become such a big story, and that he just simply didn't want guys loading up on junk food before games, since that's unhealthy and thus cutting that out is better overall for the performance of the team. He also mentioned something abbout introducing healthier alternatives like trail mix or energy bars or something. Personally I think it's a little too much, like micro managing and going too far into the players' lives, but I also think that it's being blown out of proportion. I mean from his point of view, he just made a small clubhouse rule probably because he saw guys eating ring dings before a game once and thought that they could do better. Making a clubhouse ban on candy probobly wasn't the best move, but it's not like it's a big deal to any of the players that they can't eat candy, so, it is what it is.

I sense sexism and hostilility in your question.

Since I'm old enough to remember Betty Freidan and Germaine Greer, Doris Andersen, Laura Sabia , for the Canadians reading here ,feminism was about choice. Women in the post war north america usually didn't get a formal university or professional degree after hs. Boys got the education first and foremost because they were going to be the main support the family.

Generally women were teachers, nurses or homeamkers. A few had business degrees or legal degrees.

Women like Mrs. Friedan and the like questioned why they didn't have to choice to go to school or work in a profession if they wanted to . They questioned why women of 25 and up were considered spinsters and unmarriageable. Not all women, like not all men are not cut out to be parents.

And no feminists are not all dogs or unattractive or lesbians, those are stereotypes generally fostered by men who were afraid of women getting better jobs, better educated or who these women had rejected.

Feminism is about choice to live one's life the way she wants to, do what she wants to , be educated or not .Unfortunately women sometimes being nasty and competitive, made other women feel lesser than if they didn't chose what they thought they should choose or live the way they thought they should. The most popular in girl syndrome again.

Feminists in the US , Canada and the world just wanted the chance to be able to compete fairly in whatever areas they wished to or not. That hasn't happened yet and won't because many young women are as much a part of the old boys club as men are. Misogny still lives on because the post feminists basically don't know what they're talking about when it comes to feminism, they reap the benefits but are ungrateful little cats.

Some feminists keep bringing up repression. Ironic because most of the repression against women these days comes from feminists. Feminists try to convince women that it's the men that are the ones repressing them! Men don't dog women for wanting to be a house-wife...men don't view feminine qualities as valueless...men don't insist you must have a career in order to be considered worthy of being a human being. Feminism has outlived its usefullness and is now causing far more harm than good to the populace in general. Feminists need to take a look in the mirror and realize what it is they are truly accomplishing vs harming the human condition.

It may be that there are some feminists out there that are not causing the trouble, but they will forever be yoked with the history of what other feminists have tried (and keep trying) to do...cause the breakdown of the family unit. For those trying to do good, it's time to abandon the title of "feminist" and distance yourself from it...it's the only way you can ever expect to be effective in gaining what it is you seek.

Women are still paid less than a man in many jobs and occupations. They have equal education and do equal work but are still paid less. This is just one issue they fight for.
I'm not a feminist activist but I agree women should be paid the same for the same job a man does.
This does not mean that they are less physically attracted to men than the rest of us.

I am not sure. My guess might be that they are trying to detach from men. I mean, if you flip on a lot of music videos, they are full of half-nude girls. So I guess they are trying to get girls to detach from guys. What I personally think is that they are both just weird. They don't need to go "GIRLS RIGHTS!!!", nor do they have to do porn videos. I don't know. I know that some of them are still sensible.

By this I mean that they don't want girls to act weird. And that's still really good. Because they don't need to.

Let's see... just for starters, women currently only make an average of about 80% of what an equally qualified man in the same job makes.

Feminists also work towards aims like the right to abortion, affordable birth control, fair maternity leave practices, and stricter laws against domestic violence and sex crimes.

Educate yourself.

And it's not that (straight) feminists are less attracted to men. I find men very attractive. I am just not attracted to stupid, sexist men. Maybe that's your problem.

Wow! the ignorance is quite astounding!

Try living in the shoes of a woman for even one day before you can make that judgment!

Ok, lets see if I can turn it around and put a differnt perspective on it.

I take it black americans now have the same rights as white? (I am british living in England so I can only make logical assumption) But do you thingk that blacks DO have the same rights? Legally I am sure they do, but socially, economically, generally?

No, they don't, so now take that view and place it on womens rights. Legally we have them, but on a social, economical environmental and employment terms we do not!!!

Child care facilities are appauling, many woman ARE still oppressed, by partners, work colleagues, elders.

The list is endless. Equality means equality. That's for men too. That's what woman are now fighting for. Of course you do still get your radicle feminists, but they are a minority, mainstream feminists just want equality. And beleive me there is still a very very long way to go before we can achieve that.

It's feminist who are figting for fathers rights too. It;s not about just women anymore. Battered husbands, gay rights (for both women AND men), and so many more men's issues you wouldn't beleive.

That's what modern feminism is about. All this men hating stuff and trying to BE like men just isn't true. Maybe for a minority, but hey, you'll always have that. It's just that it;s these extremist views, as with all media reporting, that gets the ait time and are the tabloid darlings. "normal" feminism is just too boring for them to report on.

What you said is so true. They still need to work on pay equity. But the force behind the femminist agenda is to unseat our Judial Christian values first and foremost. That's all it is. If we were taught to value life at all costs. They introduced a scenario where it ok to kill the most vulnerable. If we are taught that the man is the head of the family deserving of respect, they teach you dont need him etc.

I have to agree with you. I've asked several girls about the whole deal and they say that
1) it's because they were repressed
2) they are still pseudo repressed with glass ceilings and things like that
