I have a few relatives who are miserable for most of the year, but at Christmas, they're all the suddenly full of laughter and smiles, pretending that they actually care about me. The rest of the year, I hardly every hear from them. Would this bother you?

I had a particular aunt and uncle in mind, and just as I finished posting this, guess who I got a Christmas card from in the mail?

I am there!!
I have one cousin like that all year though. She will only talk to me when other members of the family are present and she will ask you questions without even listening for the answer and continue talking about it just so she can listen to hear her own voice.
Her mom is even worse, she will never talk to you unless she wants you to do something through out the year. And around Christmas when everyone comes over she is super nice and friendly towards me and then gets grouchy when she doesn't get an expensive gift from me!
It's hard to take. They are supposed to be your family and care about you, not treat you so....low.

Folks like that used to bother me, but as I have gotten older, I have also gotten wiser to their nature.
I usually will send them a Christmas card back, and move on with my day. I feel if they have no desire to know me throughout the year, then I have no obligation other than to send back to them a Christmas greeting.
Don't sweat the small stuff in this life, it only serves to stress you out, and honestly it is not worth it. Take care, and Merry Christmas!

LOL! Yeahhh, family can be a trip all year long! Holidays always tend to bring out the best or worst in people though, so just try and brush it off and move on. I am sure they are much older than you and I wont be telling you anything you dont know when I say that when people are OLD and set in their ways, they rarely if ever, CHANGE. So, YOU be merry and consistent and let family be, how family is...CRAZY! lol

Christmas is suicide season because it is expected we are happy. Your relatives are just acting under social pressure.
Why not find something genuine to enjoy at Christmas. Try to make them feel good in their hearts, so later they will contact you.
Then you can be closer as a family.

You know, I often think about Christmas and how it affects people. It is a miracle that once a year we can all forget about our woes and love one another. Please, reach out to your relatives and tell them...peace, love and hapiness all year... or shove that christmas card where the sun don't shine!

Yes, this bothers me!
I was feeling the same way this morning before I read this although mine extended into people in general. It does bother me, I don't feel like I should be obligated into getting people gifts because they gift me gift.
I wish I didn't feel this way...it makes me feel Bah Humbug and I don't want to be that way.
