An erection is a reflex action, something over which you have no control. Also, men are very visual people, and seeing an attractive woman, under any circumstances, can initiate this response.
Rest assured, you were far more embarassed than she was. It's not that she expects every male patient to react in that way, but it's also hardly the first time that she's a seen male patient do so. And she understands, as do many women, that it is a reflex and therefore something over which you have no control. AKA, it was no big deal for her, and it's highly unlikely that she said anything to anyone. Her little smile was probably because causing a man to have an erection can be very flattering to a woman.
You weren't out of line. She should have given you a gown, but that has nothing to do with a reflex reaction.

First off, let me state for the record that a guy getting an erection while nude is perfectly normal. Not everyone does every time, but in the 'right' circumstances every normal guy will. So whether during a doctor's exam, in a shower room at the gym or school or even during a strip search it doesn't matter. The nudity and the fact your penis is under observation, will tend to cause little thingies to stand up and be noticed.
While we all tend to feel embarassed about it, there is truely no reason to be. Penises exist, all guys have them, they all get erect and everyone on the planet over the age of 16 or 18 has seen one. So, why should we actually care if someone sees ours anyway.
As for a nurse, doctor or anyone else who regularly sees naked men seeing an erect penis and being insulted or offended, that should not be the case. People in those occupations are supposed to understand the naked male body in all it's pecularities and anyone who is offended by a naked man or a hard penis should not be working where such things are present in the first place. And if they do feel offended or what-have-you by seeing a nude man or his erect penis, then it's their problem and they can just go deal with it.
Now it is possible the nurse might tell the doctor what was observed but probably had no reason to since the doctor would see it all anyway. So I suspect all the doctor got from the nurse was the normal blood pressure, heart rate, etc type stuff.
As for nurses or doctors seeing naked men and their erections, and discussing the subject, it may well happen but one has to remember their observations would be in a clinical setting thus their discussions may be just as clinical. The nurse would be more apt to discuss the mole than the penis itself. Similarly a customs or police officer doing a strip search would be more apt to discuss what was found where than talk about the penis he just saw. In fact about the only place where observers of a naked male and his erection would be incliuned to discuss what they saw in a non-professional manner would be in a juniour high locker room. A nurse, doctor or other person who regularly sees naked men, who talks about a penis in the way juniour high kids do, would thus be one pretty immature person and thus unworthy of your concern as to what they might say.
So, overall, don't give it a second thoght. If that nurse was offended or talked about your penis in an unprofessional manner then that nurse has a problem. You were not out of line in being naked or in getting erect nor should you even be bothered with being embarassed by such a situation. It was no big deal and even though your penis is a little below average in length, be proud of what you have and happy in the knowledge you can use it just as well as a guy with a bigger one when it comes to pleasing a sex-mate.
Oh, and next time you are in for a physical or other exam that is to include your genitals, if they give you a gown, tell them to save the cost. After all, why bother putting on a little gown thingie then just taking it off anyway. The doctor and/or nurse are going to wind up seeing all anyway so they might as well see it all the way through. Then you can ask for a discount on the exam since you saved them a buck or two - hehe.

OK a bit too many details there -- and rarely do I say that. I've heard of a 3.5 inch floppy but never a 3.5 inch hard drive. Nonetheless I tend to think erections are kind of involuntary, unless you can block sexual thoughts out of your mind. Whether or not she was offended depends on the nurse (how often she's been around male patients who are undressed, how professional she is, her overall maturity level, etc.). You can't worry about it. Ultimately it will not likely affect you, and you were in a compromising position that you probably could not have helped under the circumstances, unless, again, you can block out sexual thoughts. If you can't do that, then there's not much you can do there -- you get aroused and the loaf will rise on its own. In any case, it shouldn't be a big deal. You can't beat yourself up now.

Not being given a gown after a request such as the nurse gave you to fully undress was disrespect on her part. Nurses can sometimes forget to keep the exam rooms stocked with gowns. I wouldn't worry about the incident.
When i am asked to fully disrobe and a gown isn't available i strip down to my shorts and if they want them off the doctor can ask.
Nurses see erections all the time, I'm married to a nurse of over 30 years and after the first week or so in their career, they think nothing of it. Believe me you weren't out of line. Doubtful the nurse was offended by this.

well, first of all, you can't control your erection, right? nohtingyou could have done, right? the nurse on the other hand was completely inappropriate for not giving you a gown or anytihng to cover with. she also shouldn't have smirked, that is unprofessional. I seriously doubt she was offended, but I would be willing to bet she told the doctor, and the other nurses. As unprofessional as that would be, it happens more than you would want to know. Not all nurses are like that, but from wha tyou described, sounds like she certainly is.. sorry you went through that

Sometimes it's an uncontrollable response. I wouldn't feel bad about it. Nurses see that all the time. It most likely didn't phase her. Same thing happen to me.
