I view the betting line as the most unbiased predictor of who will win a game.

That said, why is it that the line is favoring USC, yet every sports analyst whose game analysis you hear or read about has Michigan winning?

Has there been a recent injury, or do you think it has to do with the game being played in USC's back yard?

I am attempting to fill out my bowl picks for this year, and I need unbiased thoughts on this issue.

Dave P - I didn't miss the point. That is my point: more unbiased people are picking USC to win.

When betting lines are set they not only look at how the teams have done this year, but they also look back at how the teams have done against each other in the past. The last several times that USC played Michigan, USC won. However Michigan has a lot stronger team this year than they have the past several years, probably bucking the trend that USC normally wins the rivalry. Plus more people are going to bet on USC since USC has been in the last couple national championship games.

Michigan probably has the stronger team this year (analysts reason). It's just that history is in USC's favor (betting line reason).

Even though its in USC's home court, I'd have to take Michigan if I was a betting man. Most years though, I'd take USC.

The line is favoring USC, because it is like a home game for them,
and most of the money being bet on the game so far is on USC.
Click on the link I posted for the game, and it will give you the injury reports for both teams, and the status of the players injured. USC
has more injured players than Michigan does, including several who are out for the season.

Your first statement is your problem. A betting line is designed by book makers so that half the money will be bet on each side. With USC, they had more people willing to bet on them so the betting line moves in their direction until people start betting on Michigan.

USC is favored by 4. USC will remove that bitter taste/loss to UCLA at home by betting Michigan.

I guess you just need to go on gut feeling instead of using these other resources. If we knew the outcome beforehand what would be the thrill of the game? I wouldn't bet very much on either team. Looks like a toss-up to me.
