do you feel if the draft was to come back that more people would pay attention to the war? I was very against the draft until I thought that maybe if more people were affected by the war it would open there eyes. a volunteer armed service attracts,the ones who enjoy the military and the poor and middle class trying to better them self's with the education it provides. if the draft came back it would (Theoretically) show no favoritism and would bring the war close to the ones who sit in the ivory towers, fill there suv,s and have no idea and just follow with blinders on. maybe this is needed

that's the last thing the bush administration wants. if more people were involved in this war and people started asking questions, it would not be long that he would be impeached

No for several reasons 1. the politicians actually send a higher percentage of their kids into the arm forces than the general public 2 the arm force do not want malcontents and idiots, they are more educated than the general public at large, the arm forces are very technical now, it not like in the Vietnam era when all you had to learn was to shoot a rifle. Just judging by the amount of men that are voluntarily signing up in the middle of a war says it all.

Almost assuredly, there will be no draft. The all volunteer military is quite sufficient right now.

Though I would almost like to see the draft to see some of these whining libtards get hit with a slap in the face and brought in to reality.

I did my time in 1990-1995. Served my country. And I tell you, I may have been a self-appointed-know-it-all youngster with utopian dreams in my younger days.... but now I know the truth of the real world, and thank God every day for the time I had in the military to start me on the right path.

No to a draft. As far as trying to touch the ones in the ivory towers well the politicians send a larger % of their kids than do the rest of us. Maybe if we just drafted Hollywood kids it would be OK.

Sorry we can't afford this kind of social education. The draft would cost billions to institute and where would we get these extra billions of dollars. We already in so much red ink you need a deep sea submersible to see black ink again. We can't continue with this war as we are out of money and the national credit card is about to come due!

Hello... =)

I don't think that it would help in the least. It didn't help in Viet Nam one little bit. It merely separated the people from the government to a larger degree, and I will mention that we have never recovered that degree of separation, either.

Furthermore, today's volunteer professional army only accepts the very best candidates -- they don't just take anyone anymore. Drafting would be a nightmare for those who sift out the rubbish.

Namaste,

--Tom

A Draft is not coming back, it cannot come back without Congressional approval and a Draft restoration is very unpopular in Congress but Charles Rangel keeps wasting time trying to get it passed even though last time he voted against his own bill which failed.

Even if your thoughts on this were right (which they are not), is it okay to FORCE people to care about something because you think they should?

Maybe they should pay more attention to the war but last I checked this was supposed to be a free country.
Nothing about the draft or your argument for the draft leave any freedom to the people.
