He beat Jake the Snake Roberts at King of the Ring. At the timeRoberts was a bible thumper because he was a born again Christian, so Austin came out with the famous saying "Austin 3:16 says I just whopped your @ss." It was a take off of John 3:16

Crippler5511 is correct. It happened at King of the Ring 96.
Austin said to Jake "the snake" Roberts:
"You sit there and you thump your Bible, and you say your prayers, and it didn't get you anywhere! Talk about your Psalms, talk about John 3:16 ... Austin 3:16 says I just whipped your @ss!"
