I met the love of my life last May. Two days after we met, he gave me an engagement/commitment ring. It is a single perfect princess diamond in a Tiffany setting. We fell in love immediately and have been living together and going strong without so much as even a difference in opionion (let alone an argument) all this time. We are both divorced and have decided to wait at least a full year before marrying, as neither one of us EVER wants to go through a divorce again.

I would like very much to get him a "wedding" band for Christmas, along with some other gifts. I know that he is traditional and that he kept the wedding bands that he got from his previous wives. It would make me very proud if he would accept a ring from me. We often refer to ourselves as husband and wife when we are introduced - either that or we don't correct people who assume that.

Would that be an unusual gift or just lovely and romantic as I intend it?

I would love some opinions from men on this.

Don't be foolish....if it goes bad...Christmas will suck for many years to come...better to screw up another holiday!

Since you are sure that the two of you are of one mind, then you probably know the answer to this far better than I would.

Personally, I would be a little suprised at the gift of a "wedding band" as opposed to a simple but elegant ring. Especially if there had been no serious talk of getting married.

I just wonder if he would see it as an indication that you are going to start to force the subject of marriage gradually in stages as the anniversary date of the beginning of your relationship gets closer.

How about a ring that simply states "I love you" rather than "Wedding".

I sounds romantic but full of possible slip ups that could wreck it. Have you considered giving him a ring without that significance? Why not give him a ring that is the emotional commitment equivalent of yours, kind of like an man's engagement ring? If, when the time came for marriage, he wanted to use that ring in the ceremony and have it "become" his wedding ring, there would be nothing wrong with that.

Yada, yada, yada! You're living the proverbial socialy conditioned crap that has so many couples on the brink of extinction! Whenever you base your relationship on jewelry and the premise that you will live happily ever after just because during the courtship there is no strife between you; you're in for a big surprise! Why did your past relationship fail? Why are you so materialistic?

If wishes were horses; beggars would ride! With that mentality, you WILL get divorced again, believe me!

Merry Christmas!

Being that much in love, I'd say that was a very sexy idea. All the signs are there that he'd love it, grab you up and take you to a bed surrounded by burning candles and ravage your body. OK OK, so I flashed to a Harlequin Romance moment, but YES, good idea I think.

I would wait until closer to the wedding. If you're not getting married until next summer, then you should get him something else for Christmas ... he wouldn't be able to wear it.
