Totally legal, however I find that cheats are nice to have around but can often be abused. Once you start using them in a game it can become hard to stop using them, the result is you fly through that brand new $50 game you just got with little to no challenge. Personally I get a lot more satisfaction trying to beat the game on my own even if it means replaying a segment over and over until I get it right.
